These photographs were taken in March 2023. As mainly a portrait photographer, I wanted the challenge of producing a set of pictures with no people in them at all, and all in black and white. I learnt photography mainly using black and white film, but it's been a while since I thought in B&W; by that I mean looking at the shapes and the contrast. I have called this series 'Witchwood' - the folk name for the Rowan tree, of which there are many on the Heath. In the early months of the year, and void of the green leaves and summertime visitors, the Heath with winter skies and skeleton trees has a different power, and a certain desolate quality, which I love.
